Root Canal Treatment

ITS Dental Hospital Root Canal Treatment RCT

Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

Root canal treatment is a treatment sequence for the infected pulp of a tooth that results in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion. The root canal treatment procedure, also known as endodontic treatment, is a common procedure in modern dentistry that is used to remove inflamed or infected tissue from inside a tooth. When a tooth's nerve tissue or pulp is damaged, it breaks down and the bacteria begin to multiply within the pulp chamber. The bacteria and other decayed debris can cause an infection or abscessed tooth. The patient will experience severe pain upon chewing or application of pressure, prolonged sensitivity (pain) to hot or cold temperatures (after the heat or cold has been removed), discoloration (darkening) of the tooth, and swelling and tenderness in nearby gums. If root canal treatment is not carried out, swelling may spread to other areas of the face, neck, or head, and there would be bone loss around the tip of the root. Drainage of pus will be seen extending outward from the root. A hole can occur through the side of the tooth with drainage into the gums or through the cheek with drainage into the skin. In most cases, root canal treatment can be completed in one sitting (without tooth capping). The endodontist first takes a complete scan of your teeth and gums using an X-Ray to determine the amount of decontamination in the infected tooth that needs to be removed. The dentist will numb the affected area using reliable anesthesia before starting the removal process. They will safely proceed to remove the infected pulp and nerve in the root, clean & shape the root canal, and then seal it using a specific gutta-percha material. The endodontist will recommend you to place a crown in order to cover and restore the tooth to its original function.
